IN TIME <3

Just an hour ago, tweets and wall photos of the recently concluded first batch run have been flooding my Facebook and Twitter pages. Some already started posting their schedules in hopes of finding someone who shares the same schedule as theirs. Others were bragging about the 21 or so units they have so luckily attained from the batch run. There were also quite a number of students who were already rambling about how inaccessible the CRS page is, due to the traffic of the thousands of UP Diliman students desperately trying to catch a glimpse of their schedules for the coming semester. While these people are battling about a hundred or so emotions about the batch run, I found myself stuck in the middle of the spectrum, wondering if I should be complaining that I only got 9 units, in which one major subject and my preferred elective are still lacking, or should I be rejoicing at the fact that I did not have to rape the F5 button just to get into the site.

Still contemplating on this shallow thought balloon, I came across a unique Facebook status. His status celebrates the idea of not having to prerog for the sixth time around. This guy, already on his third year, gets all the subjects he needs (and wants) every batch run, even during the summer. I was so amazed by his experience that I even commented on the status to show my ~congratulations~.

Then, for some reason, I stumbled upon the UPD CRS Official Facebook Page. There, I found a long document containing some pleads, clarifications and explanations from the developers of CRS. In fact, one line struck me the most and I quote: “Also take note that if you’re stressed because you only got 1 subject, the CRS team is stressed 20,000x. Wala kayong excuse mag RAAAAGE!!! GRAAAWR sa group na ito.” Again, being the easily-amused person that I am, I posted this one on Twitter and said that I won’t be  sad anymore, with the thought of the many others who got the shorter end of the stick than I did.

When I shifted back to my Twitter page, I found friends who got more units than I did. I typed words of congratulations and even encouraged them to think of themselves as lucky for there are some who have not gotten any unit at all. Then, I tweeted something that says: “Instead of complaining like a rich brat, I shall celebrate at the victory of others. HAHAHA #excuses”.

The point I’m trying to make behind these words is that the old ME would not have ~rejoiced~ at the fact of being the odd one out or the one who did not get the best of the bunch. Reference group theory states that we feel inferior when somebody we know is happier than us. We tend to compare ourselves with what others have. For months, I’ve struggled over the idea that maybe, we all have our own time—that specific timeframe in which we get everything that we’ve wished for. There would just be this certain moment that we can call ours alone. The spotlight would be directed at us. Everyone’s eyes would be in our direction. Everything would seem to be in its perfect order. That moment. And while we’re not yet in that road, it would  not hurt to rejoice at others’ victories. After all, it is their time.  They would, of course, want their friends to just be happy with however little victory that is, just like how we want others to feel for us. Our time will come eventually. While we don’t get the good vibes in this first batch run, maybe we’ll get them on the second or at the end of the semester, when we’re anxiously waiting for our grades to come out after we’ve hit the Refresh button. We all just have to stop looking for our own time and victories ‘coz they will come naturally, when we’re ready and always in God’s time. <3

INDIMENTICABILE

May 22, 2012

It was on this day that we had our last Italian class :(

That day was composed of two activities: our oral exam/presentation and our class party.

The oral presentations were just okay. As usual, we laughed at the crazy concepts/storylines that our classmates thought of for the presentations. There would be some awkward gestures here and there but it was fine because we were all used to them anyway. :)

Right after the exam, we had our little party :)

Before we gorged ourselves with these cheats, we gave our Signorina Cabling a big card that contained all our messages. ;)

Then, we had Ichan, a classmate of ours who’s a member of the UP PEP SQUAD, do some stunts. We were really amazed by how seamless his tumbling skills were!

A little later, Paul, our baby boy in the class (because he’s the only minor in class), prepared a song for us. He brought his keyboard with him and played a song (I think it’s a love song but sadly, I don’t know the title).

Then, we ate and chatted and ate a little more! :)

And we ate and chatted and took more pictures!

There is not really an exact formula on what makes a college class fun and unforgettable. Maybe, it was the time. Summer classes are bound to be fun simply because everyone’s thinking that they should really be making the most out of their summer. So instead of taking a class seriously, you try to see the good and enjoyable thing out of this ~obligation~. Maybe, it really depends on the right mix of people—people straddling on the extreme ends of the personality spectrum and those that jog just right in the middle. Or maybe, it’s just the environment you’re in. With everything so new and foreign to each member of the class, you go through this phase by laughing at each other’s silliness and coaching one another to full comprehension. You fill in those awkward silences with crazy antics and witty punchlines that, you’d never thought, would be so much of a hit.

But whatever it is, my Italian 10 had a little bit of everything. And it’s definitely one of best classes I’ve had in my college life, so far. <3

What’s in your bag?

Well, usually, I carry around a pack of tissue and some baby wipes, just in case, you know, some naturally-occurring incident happens. I also have my school ID (for bus trip discounts!), my wallet and a purse (don’t ask why I carry two haha), an umbrella, a face towel, a Johnson’s baby powder, the book that I’m currently reading, my phone, a USB, and, of course, a sanitizer.

What song can you never get tired of listening to?

“Smiling but we’re close to tears, even after all these years” The Script’s For the First Time definitely hits home!

What would you name your future son/daughter?

Ooh, I have this one partially worked out! :) For my daughter, it would be something like Yunah or Yoanah or Noah. For my son, I’d like to name him with Aeon or Marion. :)

What’s the worst lie you’ve ever told?

Uhm, I actually don’t know. I have told, perhaps, a thousand lies in my years of existence that I don’t actually remember how I’ve suffered from telling them.

Which came first, the chicken or the egg?

I think it’s the chicken. Just a random thought.

If you could trade lives with anyone, who would it be and why?

I couldn’t think of anyone in particular, but the person that first came to mind was a host of a TLC program. I’d switch lives with a travel reporter because I get to be paid while doing one of the things I love: traveling and immersing myself in different cultures.

What movie always makes you cry whenever you watch it?

No doubt about this one. A Walk to Remember surely hits this spot.

If you could be anywhere, where would you be?

I’d be right where I am right now, happily enjoying life with my family and friends :)

Fictional character (movie, book, comic book etc.) you’d like to be

I’d like to be Gil Ra Im from the Koreanovela Secret Garden. I just think it’s cool to be a stuntwoman. Plus, I get to wear combat boots, leather jackets and have some really awesome makeup! :)

If you could make your own ice cream flavor, what would it contain and what would you call it?

Smores and Cheesecake? There would be some marshmallows, bits of chocolate, and chunks of different kinds of cheese! That would be nice! :))

What’s the first thing you would spend your first paycheck on?

Books, of course! :) Books are quite expensive for a vice but I’m not really a great fan of e-books and the farthest I’ve ever reached was not more than three pages. I prefer to read and carry around with me an actual book with its dog-eared pages and that almost addicting smell of paper.

R-Studio did it again :)

Yesterday, I was browsing over the movies I have in my laptop, carefully deciding on what to watch after the tiring exam we had in our NatSci2. Then, I realized that almost all the movies I’ve recently finished downloading were all being saved in my Downloads folder, thus consuming most of my Drive C space.

It was then that I decided to transfer them to Drive D, which holds all the 50+ movies I have. After the transfer, I proceeded to deleting the copy in the Downloads folder so as to avoid having double copies (which would just consume more space). Relieved as I was to see that my DRIVE C gained almost 8GB of free space, I then went to emptying the Recycle been,  with the thought that doing so would make me gain more disk capacity.

But then, right after emptying the recycle bin, I realized that what I deleted weren’t the movies in my Downloads folder; it was the Videos folder in Drive D containing my 50+ movies! My heart leapt. Planning my next action became a hurdle for me. I was afraid that if I made the wrong move, I would lose all these movies and would have to download them all over again.

And then, I remembered R-Studio, the data recovery software I downloaded last week so I could recover the deleted files in my aunt’s HD (I blogged about it here). I decided to give it another try, crossing my fingers every now and then. (I even watched Becoming Jane while waiting for the recovery to finish so I could just forget the misery I had that time and just swoon over James McAvoy! :”>)

Good thing, R-Studio did it again. This time, it was faster than I expected. The 50GB worth of files were recovered in less than thirty minutes (while the recovery of the 18GB files of my tita took almost five hours!).

So maybe next time, I’ll be more careful. I certainly don’t want this kind of adrenaline rush.

I was pretty bored, so I decided to make a list of things I have to do today. I think the colors and feels of this picture motivate me to actually follow this to-do list.
Ha ha. Whutever.
